ABOUT DAVE

What will you invest your life in that will make a difference? This answer to this question brought clarity to my future when I lost my best college friend in an accident at the start of my senior year. I continued to ponder my answer as I graduated from the University of Montana.

Looking back at my life, I was profoundly influenced by athletic coaches and seasoned mentors. As a result, answering the life question above led me to spend the bulk of my professional career investing in the lives of others.

From young, aspiring leaders on a university campus to successful leaders desiring greater impact in the second half of life, one of my life’s greatest privileges has been to leverage the experiences, training and resources I have to further the success of those around me.

My Professional Background

Over the course of my career, I have been involved in a wide range of activities in the outdoor world. I have more than 20 years of experience using extreme sports and the outdoors to help leaders grow in both character and competency. Over the years, I have served as a backpacking trip leader, a rock-climbing instructor, a ski instructor, and a whitewater rafting guide. Two personal highlights were rock climbing El Capitan, in Yosemite, and completing an Ironman triathlon in New Zealand.

As an experienced outdoor professional, I take guiding others seriously and recognize the value of leading and being led. Eventually, all of these experiences led me to start  a company called 1 Degree Adventures. We provide what we call catalyst experiences for leaders—experiences that can transform their personal and professional lives.

Along with my lifelong passion for the outdoors, I have also been a lifelong entrepreneur. I have raised more than  two million dollars for a nonprofit, have been part of multiple startup projects, and have developed and led teams across multiple locations in the U.S. and overseas.

I am trained and certified in administering the EQ-I 2.0 assessment in the field of Emotional Intelligence. I am also certified in taking couples through a communication model to help them more effectively deal with conflict called Couple Communication. Coaching is a natural extension of my life’s personal and professional journey and fits well with my life mission, which is to influence lives towards significance and flourishing. In many ways, coaching is the culmination of my lifelong passions and pursuits.

Personal Interests

In addition to my passion for sports and the outdoors, I love to travel and experience other cultures. I have been to over 35 countries and have cumulatively lived outside the U.S. for 6 years.

Of all the things that have shaped my life, my faith and my wife and son are my most significant influences and relationships. Married later in life, they both continue to add to the adventure of life making it more worthwhile in many different ways.

My mission is to change the trajectory of leaders' lives by just 1 degree, sending you in a new direction and trajectory, so you can find answers to the questions you're asking, and to help you create the impact you desire.
